Sports

"The sport itself does what the Brazilian government tries
throughseveral projects almost always unsuccessfuly:
integration of the blindinto society. That's  It because
the sport has naturally the power of inclusion"
Anderson Dias, Paralympic champion, President of Urece

Sports

In recent years, Paralympic sport has shown its value through expressive results both in national and international scope. The Paralympics in Athens in 2004, had different ways, showing to many Brazilians that the athlete with a disability is as capable as any other. This was the first time that a Paralympic event was broadcast by Brazilian TV. The results were very satisfying, so that other competitions between people with disabilities also gained space in the media. It was thus good for the ParaPan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro and, even on a larger scale, for the Paralympics from Beijing.
Urece believes that the practice of individual sports allows to explore the possibilities of the body, and the blind athlete can be set free of insecurity, fear and dependency caused by the lack of vision. Thus, it can develop its potential inhibited by disability, lack of information from family and the prejudices that society insists on maintaining.
The benefits of the sport go beyond: greater confidence and ability to move up, more sharp notion of space, an area of their motor skills, improving the hearing, among others.
For us, the sport is a tool of social inclusion and the quest for citizenship, but also as a means of the blind assert itself as a professional of his form and be valued and recognized as such. Based on success stories of athletes who participate in Urece Sports and Culture, we believe that other young people may follow their footsteps and become high-level athletes.

Our Teams

Currently, the Urece Sports and Culture has about 50 athletes in five different sports: blind football, athletics, goalball, rowing and swimming, the latter in partnership with the Club de Regatas do Flamengo.
